Could you use some additional mobility to get that optimal range of motion for overhead squat? Having issues getting deep enough into your squat? Have a nagging tightness in your lower back or hamstrings that stretching yourself or foam rolling isn’t quite taking care of? If you answered yes to any of these, then Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST®) could be the answer you have been looking for!

What is Fascia?

Great question! “Under your skin, encasing your body and webbing its way through your insides like spider webs, is fascia. Fascia is made up primarily of densely packed collagen fibers that create a full body system of sheets, chords and bags that wrap, divide and permeate every one of your muscles, bones, nerves, blood vessels and organs. Every bit of you is encased in it. You’re protected by fascia, connected by fascia and kept in taut human shape by fascia.”  Read more on fascia in the rest of this article by clicking here.

Another great question! FST is a assisted stretching technique performed by a Certified Fascial Stretch Therapist with the client on a treatment table. When assisted stretching takes place on the treatment table, comfortable straps are used to stabilize the limb or part of the body that is not being worked on, thus facilitating complete relaxation of the person being stretched and enhancing the effectiveness of the actions of the therapist. This technique uses a modified proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) technique. This instrumental component that is used in FST gets the joint capsule open by decompressing the joint and eliminates the jamming of joint while stretching. It creates optimal mobility of the joint capsule and dramatically helps the effectiveness of ROM increases and flexibility gains.

What Results can I expect from FST?

  • Increased level of relaxation.
  • Reduced pain levels during stretching.
  • Releases adhesions in the joint capsule and other connective tissue.
  • Traction allows for maximal lengthening of all the connective tissues from deep inside the joint capsule, ligaments, tendons, muscle tissue and all the connective tissue throughout the body.
  • Increased joint space.
  • Eliminates Trigger Points.
  • Improved muscle activation & relaxation.
  • Manipulates, lengthens, re-aligns and re-organizes your fascia.
Improves flexibility on the first session & becomes cumulative with multiple sessions.
