Can you believe CrossFit has been around since 1995? CrossFit founder Greg Glassman had a vision, took action spreading his beliefs, training and vision and CrossFit was born.
From an article at livestrong.com, Greg Glassman’s CrossFit Program is a strength and conditioning system that uses various training techniques to help improve your overall fitness. Glassman created CrossFit in 1995, and started the website in 2001. According to Glassman, “The CrossFit Program was developed to enhance an individual’s competency at all physical tasks.” CrossFit has created a strong following by offering specific certification seminars, and holding a contest called the CrossFit Games.
What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.
Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist.
The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.
The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree not kind. Our terrorist hunters, skiers, mountain bike riders and housewives have found their best fitness from the same regimen.

2001 – First CrossFit affiliate (certified CrossFit gym) was started in Seattle, the affiliate was CrossFit North in Seattle
2005 – 13 CrossFit affiliates nationwide
Today – Over 3800 CrossFit affiliates worldwide

Through CrossFit we’ve learned that harnessing the natural camaraderie, competition and fun of sport or game yields an intensity that cannot be matched by other means.
