OLY Lifts….part 3

We’ve warmed up with the Burgener Warm Up, we have the feet positioning focusing on the jumping and landing (catch) position, now lets look at the grip.  There are a couple of popular ways to grip the bar when performing the Olympic lifts however today we will focus on the hook grip.  The hook grip, with practice, helps us be more efficient with heavy weight.

With the hook grip, the athlete will place the palm of the hand first, then wrap the thumb and last the fingers around the bar.  For some, the fingers will overlap the top of the thumb.  The thumb creates  “hook” figure on the bar.  See below:
